Focus on Second Open Call winners: AI Vision System for Real-Time Monitoring and Analysis of Oven Movements – AI-Vision for Oven Monitoring

WHAT ABOUT THE EXPERIMENT?
Pentas is developing an AI vision system that monitors oven work on the production floor in real time. Using cameras and smart algorithms, the system tracks operator movements, detects deviations, and provides immediate feedback. This improves product quality, reduces waste, and lowers energy use.
The focus is on tasks where people and machines work together. Instead of replacing workers, AI supports them helping prevent errors, streamline workflows, and reduce physical strain. This creates a safer, more efficient, and more satisfying working environment.
The project follows the principles of Industry 5.0, where technology serves both people and the planet. We aim to reduce our energy consumption per kilo produced, cut scrap rates by half, and increase output. By simplifying work processes, we also open up opportunities for people with a distance to the labor market.
Pentas is a family-owned company based in Almelo, the Netherlands. With 11 rotomoulding machines, 12 robots, and 1,660 solar panels, we combine advanced manufacturing with sustainability. Our in-house development team connects machines, systems, and data. This AI vision system is the next step in our digital journey.
We actively share the outcomes of this project, allowing other companies to learn and benefit. In doing so, we contribute to a smarter, more sustainable manufacturing industry across Europe.
WHAT IS THE EXPECTED IMPACT?
The AI vision system will significantly improve Pentas’ production efficiency, sustainability, and workforce support. By detecting deviations in real time, we expect a 10% increase in output and a 50% reduction in scrap. Energy consumption per kilogram produced will decrease by 10%, directly contributing to our carbon reduction goals.
Operators benefit from reduced physical strain and real-time feedback, increasing safety, focus, and job satisfaction. The system also simplifies tasks, creating opportunities for inclusive employment.
For Pentas, this project strengthens our position as an innovative, future-ready manufacturer. The open architecture allows for easy scaling across processes and serves as a model for other SMEs. By sharing results via the AI REDGIO 5.0 network, we contribute to Europe’s goals in digitalisation, sustainability, and human-centric industry.
